2023 Fashion Guidelines
With every new year comes new fashion trends, new popular colors, and the resurfacing of old favorite styles. This year … 2023 is no different. As we are racing into this new year, you may begin to see splashes of magenta everywhere you go. This is no coincidence. Pantone has named “Viva Magenta” as the color of the year.
The color of the year gets put onto everything – not just clothes, shoes, and accessories. It will also be a popular nail color, lipstick color and so much more. I personally feel like this color, “Viva Magenta,” is the perfect color to usher us into Valentine’s Day. It is the perfect combo of red and purple and has already got me in the mood for wearing hearts.
So now that we know the color of the year, what else can we expect to incorporate into our wardrobe this year?
A few of the trends that are popping up from multiple designers are cargo pants, tropical vibes, biker chics, metal everything, and new ways to denim.
1. Cargo Pants
Cargo pants have always been more of a manly option in my opinion. They tend to need more pockets because, unlike us women, most men do not carry purses. However, the designers have decided that women need to wear cargo pants this year. I do not have anything against cargo pants I just do not find them to be very feminine. I have worn cargo pants for certain occasions – like going on missions trips or traveling. They are perfect for times when I am not able to carry a purse around and need another option. Will I be adding a pair to my wardrobe this year to wear occasionally? That is very unlikely.
2. Tropical Vibes
Tropical vibes have also been making their appearance on the runway. I am not talking about just Hawaiian-styled shirts. I am seeing beach views on all sorts of dresses, shirts, skirts … everything. This is cute but it also reminds me of styles from when I was in middle school. I would rather go to the beach, not wear it on my shirt. Am I right?!
3. Biker Chic
Biker chic vibes are also coming on strong this year. Now, this is a style I can get with. I have always loved Moto jackets and leather or faux leather pants and leggings are so fun to wear. I will be excited to add some of these pieces to my already existent biker chic wardrobe. Just a side note, you do not have to be a biker chic to enjoy these fashions. It is more or less just a way to describe the style. Not all ladies that ride motorcycles dress like this and not all ladies that dress like this ride motorcycles. I hardly ever leave the house in a full-on biker chic outfit. I will mix the Moto jacket with jeans or the leather pants with a sweater.
4. Metal Everything
This metal-everything style that they are pushing this year is kind of an interesting one. You will see it come across as either real big chunks of metal that they have styled onto a piece of clothing (not talking about jewelry here) or as chain mail metal that they are adding to outfits. As I said … it is interesting. Though I have not tried on any of these pieces yet, I can only imagine that the huge pieces of metal will actually be heavy to wear and could possibly cause some wardrobe malfunctions. Let’s be honest, my purse is already heavy enough. I do not need to add extra weight from metal on my clothing weighing me down. And the chain mail just makes me think of knights. It was a practical thing for knights to wear to protect their bodies. We do not have any need to wear it and it is not flattering, feminine, or even useful. So I will have to say no to the chain mail.
5. New Ways to Denim
Last but not least, the designers are trying to create new styles of wearing denim. Everyone loves denim and loves to wear it – whether in jeans or as denim jackets. However, the styles I have seen of these new styles of denim are just not quite what we need. Most of them look very uncomfortable and just not practical. I think one of the biggest reasons people enjoy wearing denim so much is because it is comfortable and so easy to work with. You can style it so many ways and pair it with practically anything. And maybe the designers should just leave what is already a good thing alone.
