30 Days with the Word
30 Days with THE WORD
January 3, 2021
John 1:1-2, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He (the Word) was in the beginning with God (NKJV).’
I wonder if you too have ever lived in a neighborhood where some new neighbors moved into a home in your cul-de-sac or on your street. Perhaps you watched the family move out who had been living there; perhaps they were dear friends and maybe there was a lump in your throat as you watched their moving van creep down the block, away from you not toward you. Maybe even you were a child, and it was your best friend who moved away. The tears trickled down your cheeks as you watched the car turn the corner at the end of the street and the waving hand in the back window disappeared for a final time. I wonder if you felt like there would never be another friend like that neighbor and I also wonder what emotion you might have felt when you heard someone had bought your neighbor’s home and would be moving into your neighborhood. Curiosity? Sadness? Did it perhaps even cross your mind, ‘Well, I’m not going to get to know that person because that home belongs to my friend!’ Did you think, ‘They’ll never belong here in this neighborhood!’ Did you wonder in the least what they might be like and what baggage they might bring with them?
So the Bible says in Revelation 21:3, ‘I heard a voice thunder from the Throne: “Look! Look! God has moved into the neighborhood, making His home with men and women! They’re His people, He is their God. He’ll wipe every tear from their eyes. Death is gone for good–tears gone, crying gone, pain gone—all the first order of things gone.” The Enthroned continued, “Look! I’m making everything new. Write it down—each Word dependable and accurate (MSG).”’ We also learned yesterday that ‘the Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood (John 1:14, MSG).’
What if Jesus, the Word, in essence, God, was Who was moving into your neighborhood and with Him He was bringing so much promise? Would you welcome Him or would you shutter the windows of your soul and lock your door when He came to call?
