30 Days with the Word – January 9
30 Days with THE WORD
January 9, 2021
John 1:1-2, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He (the Word) was in the beginning with God (NKJV).’
Psalm 119:9-16, ‘How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of Your Word. I’m single-minded in pursuit of You; don’t let me miss the road signs You’ve posted. I’ve banked Your promises in the vault of my heart so I won’t sin myself bankrupt. Be blessed, God; train me in Your ways of wise living. I’ll transfer to my lips all the counsel that comes from Your mouth; I delight far more in what You tell me about living than in gathering a pile of riches, I ponder every morsel of wisdom from You, I attentively watch how You’ve done it. I relish everything You’ve told me of life, I won’t forget a Word of it (MSG).’
There was life before Google maps. I remember; I used to take pride in my map reading skills. I would take a significant amount of time to prepare my navigation route when I had a road trip ahead of me. I am among the many now; I am spoiled rotten by Google maps and other navigation apps and likely would have a struggle mapping my best travel course.
So too is God’s Word. I would be hard-pressed today to navigate through this life this past year without the assistance of my Navigator. His Word is a compass to locate the direction I am headed in and can point also to a better direction if I get off track. His Word is a light so I can see with spiritual eyes the path that I am on or to help me find the right path I might have missed while wandering in the dark. His Word is filled with complete directions to life and godliness and there are travel markers on every page of His Word for guidance and conveyance of God’s meaning for His children.
We as humanity have a bad habit of blaming our actions and choices, wasted time and shortcomings on others. But, truly, with God’s Word, if we are following its instruction, we won’t be led astray or coerced into bad decisions or find ourselves lost and alone.
Psalm 119:11, ‘Your Word I have hidden in my heart that I might not sin against You (NKJV).’
