What is the most productive thing you have done during quarantine?
“When I stopped to think about the one productive thing I had done during quarantine, it took me a few minutes. After thinking back over the past month, I had come to realize that the most productive thing I’d done was STOPPING and SITTING. I had cleared my table of the pretty placemats and centerpiece that kept it looking Pinterest perfect and dumped a 1000 piece puzzle onto it. Sitting still is not something that comes easily or naturally to me; I’d much rather be running around my house cleaning or doing laundry. But it was in the sitting and working on the puzzle that meaningful conversations took place, and memories were made as a family. It was in the “sitting” that laughter happened, and we grew closer together. I’ve learned to allow the quarantine to slow me down to enjoy the simple things.”
“The most productive thing I have done this week during quarantine is revisit the idea of the 5 Love Languages, particularly with my kids. Because we are home so much together now, I am able to pay more attention to their actual love language and try to set intentional time to show my three biological and three foster children their love languages. I am definitely not perfect by any means but I can already tell a difference as I have gotten intentional.“
“The most productive thing I’ve done during quarantine is learning attraction marketing skills to leverage my business.“
“The MOST productive thing I have accomplished during this quarantine time is learning how to use Google Drive and Google Classroom for our distance learning program. Most people have no idea how much work their teachers are doing during this time. I have been working 8 to 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for the last 6 weeks. I worked 10 to 12 hours a day every day of our Easter Holiday. We now have to do at least 3 times the paperwork, planning, prep, and other “administrative” parts of our job. That’s the part of the job most teachers strongly dislike. Meanwhile we get to do ZERO of the part of the job we love… Interacting with our kids! Many parents are acting like we are on vacation. Many are combative and stirring up trouble among other parents. But, please consider the fact that, overnight, our job went from the best job in the whole world to an absolute nightmare. And we are giving 200% trying to assure that your children thrive during this difficult time.“
“While I would love to say the most productive thing I’ve done during quarantine is something such as learning a new language or reorganizing all of my closets and cabinets, the truth is that the thing I consider most productive is maintaining a sense of normalcy and making sure the kids are all happy. We continue our normal daily routine as much as possible, which includes homeschooling my fourth grader. Maintaining normalcy for my teenagers who normally attend high school is much more of a challenge. We’ve been working on innovative ways of “seeing” friends; group Facetiming is a blessing!“
I think the most productive thing I have done is to create routines within our various schedules to develop a rhythm for our family life at home. Three people dealing with depression and anxiety, one high school senior with learning disabilities, myself with medical disabilities, and my husband working 16+ hour days at home to support a large hospital system…there’s a lot going on and it can only flow peacefully if we have routines…like what house space each person has to call their own, instituting cinnamon roll Sundays (homemade overnight cinnamon rolls fresh every Sunday morning as we watch church service), daily walks, container gardening, who can stream movies and videos and when, and having weekly dates with my handsome HandyITguy husband.
