Day Five: SURPRISED!

Psalm 18:19-24, ‘He stood me up on a wide-open field; I stood there saved—surprised to be loved! God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before Him. When I got my act together, He gave me a fresh start. Now I’m alert to God’s ways; I don’t take God for granted. Every day I review the ways He works; I try not to miss a trick. I feel put back together, and I’m watching my step. God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to His eyes.’ (MSG)

I have known (of) Jesus my entire life. Well, almost. I asked Him into my heart when I was four years old. But it is only the past handful of years that I can confidently say I not only know of Him, but I know Him personally, deeply, intimately.

I am overwhelmed, SURPRISED! to be so loved by a Holy God. I am stupefied that He would see me as a righteous child, worthy of His grace and love; that He would do for me all He has chosen to. I am humbled by His great love, that He would include me in His family.

It didn’t happen all at once and God is such a Gentleman to wait patiently on what might appear to some as the sidelines, working behind the scenes on the contours of my heart. He allowed me to masquerade as a self-sufficient success-story until I came to the end of me and the bottom of the bottle. Gracefully, He stepped from out of the shadows to the forefront of my humanity and wrapped me in extravagant love and amazing mercy. He took the blackboard of my life, smeared with imperfect equations, wiped it clean, painted a fresh start, a new beginning.

God Almighty, Lifter of my head, Defender of my soul, Perfector of my life, Author of my story, I am so amazed, SURPRISED! to be loved and changed by You. Please never leave me alone without Your presence ever again.

Has He stood you in a wide-open field and saved you? If so, write Him a love letter. If not, why don’t you let Him today?

John 3:16-17, ‘”For here is the way God loved the world—He gave His only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in Him will never perish but experience everlasting life. God did not send His Son into the world to judge and condemn the world, but to be its Savior and rescue it!”’ (TPT)
