Day Eighteen: Righteousness
2 Corinthians 5:21, ‘He made Christ Who knew no sin to [judicially] be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious lovingkindness].’ (AMP)
I love how The Message puts it: ‘How? you ask. In Christ, God put the wrong on Him Who never did anything wrong, so we could be put right with God.’ One of the things that is the hardest for me to wrap myself around is that what Jesus did for me has given me the opportunity to become righteous. I don’t know about you, but there is nothing righteous about this girl. I am a broken vessel with many holes and blemishes and insides that are messy. Yet He calls me the righteousness of God!
We are even invited, or rather advised, to put on His armor so that we are protected in our representation of Him in our daily lives and to be guarded from the enemy’s schemes against us. One of the pieces as a child of God that we are to wear is a breastplate of righteousness. I so often have stopped to consider this because in my messy attire anything righteous seems ill-fitting. But He fitted it for me and even helps me step into it, a virtuous uniform that I certainly do not deserve. Like going to work for a King in a palace, and instead, being offered a seat at the table. I am so very thankful and without words because that’s what Christ bought for me: a seat at the table.
What does righteousness mean to you? You are invited to step into your Armor of God, including the breastplate of righteousness, just like me!
