THE WORD
January 1, 2021
John 1:1-2, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God (NKJV).’

Everything in life has a beginning. Like even this year. It has a beginning which is today. Each day has a beginning also. Our eyes open to a fresh start and, for just a moment, we are presented with a clean slate. White-washed and new, the moment awaits, nothing notated, no marks yet on the chalkboard of our day, not even the fine dust left behind from an eraser because an eraser hasn’t been needed, not yet, in the beginning of a new day, a new year. We haven’t had a chance to mess up today yet, to color outside of the lines, to leave a trail. Momentarily, in the beginning, of anything really – a job, a book, a relationship, an experience, a year, today – there is nothing forecast of yesterday, not even a sigh, nor tethered to tomorrow, not even a regret. In the beginning, that is.

So too was another beginning, the beginning of the beginning. The Bible says in Genesis 1:1-5, ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.’

So the Word was in the beginning, and the Word spoke into existence, the essence of life. With God in the beginning was the Word because the Word was God, and down through the ages, the Word of God speaks, and the echo reverberates still today in the hearts of man because we need the Word for guidance and assurance, comfort and direction, sustenance and love.
I hope you’ll join us this month as we are going to study the inerrant Word of God to see what hidden nuggets of purpose can be excavated as we dig deeper into His Word for our lives.
