Virtual Christian Business Expo

Meet the Vendor: Nancy Huber

Please introduce yourself and your business to our readers and expo visitors

My name is Nancy Huber. I am married to a fabulous man and we have four grown children, ranging from twenty-one to thirty-two years of age. We also are the proud grandparents of two adorable grandsons. We live tucked between gorgeous mountains in northern BC, Canada, where we are surrounded by forests, rivers and wildlife. We share our home with numerous critters, large and small.

Moving up here has been such a great inspiration and blessing.

I grew up as an only child. I began writing when I was eight years old, knowing I wanted to become an author soon after. I had written some really bad short stories before I was ten years old, but have since then (hopefully) expanded my writing skills and broadened my imagination. I kept a journal since my early teen years. I always enjoyed writing, yet somehow kept it a secret – until many years after, and a husband and four children later we moved to northern British Columbia.

I had finished homeschooling my two youngest and found myself lost and idle, realizing how much homeschooling had consumed me.

One morning I awoke from a dream and I sat down, pen in hand, and began writing. Three months later I had finished my very first time-travel historical, romance novel.

Quenching my thirst for history, I enrolled with the University of Manchester in England to study Egyptology; a long-kept dream of mine.

My goal is to combine my love for history with my writing, hoping to ignite a spark of passion amongst readers. And perhaps it triggers some unknown interest in them, and they begin researching things in history on their own.

Who is your main target audience?

I find it always somewhat difficult to answer who my target audience is. A wide variety of people have read my books, often times surprising me. For example, this October my publisher AAE had their yearly Conference and I was more than surprised when a male doctor came on stage, holding my book Days of Fire in his hands. He was praising my story, telling people they need to read it. At that moment I realized that, hey, even doctors can enjoy my story.

So, what I am really trying to say is that my stories are for anyone who loves history, and adventure mixed with a little bit of sweet romance. And my books are for people who like stories that are faith-based. They show characters with problems that need solving. Characters who are in need of a Saviour and one can see how God guides them through their journey.

What do you hope to achieve through your participation in the virtual Christian business expo?

I am so honored to be here at the Christian Business Expo. To have a virtual experience is of great advantage to me. It is very difficult for me to get away from home because I also run a dog boarding and grooming business on the side, have a small hobby farm and run an Airbnb. So, you can see that it would be rather difficult.

So, when I learned about this virtual event, I was more than thrilled. I am very excited about meeting new people and create new contacts.

I am looking forward to all the different booths, exploring all the different things offered. I am amazed of how beautiful and inviting they all look.

And I can’t wait to meet other authors and painters, and homeschooling moms.

Tell us about your top three favorite products

It is difficult to choose my three favorite books I have written. It’s like asking a mother to say which one is her favorite child. You get what I mean, I hope.

Days of Fire: Battles for Freedom

The story for my story goes something like this.

Every year at Hanukkah I was drawn to the horrible and dreadful persecutions of the Jewish people, done to them through the hands of the malicious King Antiochus IV. Three years ago, I could no longer ignore the voice in my head, telling me I needed to write the story of the Maccabees and the children of Israel.

I wrote a few chapters, but then turned to something else. I wrote Kingdom of Eternity instead. After its publication, I could not continue ignoring the voice and I tried again; taking up my pen and trying to figure out how to tell the story in its best way possible.

That’s when I met Marius, a delinquent teenager with a lot of problems on his side. I knew right away that I had found the missing link to my story. Then Shireen, a Persian slave girl stumbled upon the pages, and I knew I had found my story within the story.

I was going to mix the present with the past, and somehow connect Marius and Judah Maccabee. I had no idea how I would do that, but as the story progressed, the veil was slowly lifted and I could see the story taking off.

With this story I am hoping to connect readers with the history and origins of Hannukah. I want them to taste the difficulties, the battles, and victories of that time.

Many don’t know what happened during that part of history, and it is my hope and prayer that my story will ignite a spark of interest in the reader and understanding about Hannukah, and its relevancy to our time today.

Homeschooling Against All Odds: Our Faith-Walk Experience: Journals from an Audacious Mother

Now this came as a total surprise. I say this because I write fiction.

Last year I had begun translating my old journals which I had kept during our homeschooling years in Germany. Then I forgot about them, and wrote Days of Fire. Are you seeing a pattern here? I tend to do this a lot.

In October 2020, I remembered my translated journal, and went over it again, adding the last year of homeschooling before we left Germany.

Now, you may wonder, what’s so special about this journal. Well, if I told you that it is illegal to homeschool in Germany, and that your children were taken away due to doing so, would this change your opinion?

I felt like Abraham, when he was asked to sacrifice his only son Isaak. Deciding to homeschool was not an easy option. It was probably one of the most difficult decisions my husband and I ever had to do – but we did. We took our children out of the school system and taught them ourselves. This was the greatest act of faith. A journey most difficult and miraculous.

Homeschooling Journal

I created a journal to go along with the Homeschooling Against All Odds book.

This is a special journal for special mothers, and it’s dear to my heart to share this with you. I have added my paintings from my murals in our home. The murals cheer me up on a daily basis, and so I wanted to share this with all the mothers, who need a little cheering up. I hope my paintings combined with God’s Word will be a blessing.

I am looking forward to all the different booths, which I want to explore. Meet different authors and painters, and homeschoolers.

What was your toughest challenge while writing Days of Fire?

I had mentioned before, that I had started writing Days of Fire a few years ago, but then stopped and wrote another book instead.

I must admit that it was fear that held me back. Fear of writing battle scenes, which I knew were crucial for this novel. I had to write not only one battle scene, but three in total.

After lots of prayer and reading and studying more about the Revolt, I finally dipped my pen in His confidence and wisdom, and wrote one page after another, and before I knew it, I had written those battle scenes. He makes all things possible.
