30 Days with The Word – January 6
30 Days with THE WORD
January 6, 2021
John 1:1-2, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He (the Word) was in the beginning with God (NKJV).’
If you were going into a battle, with which would you rather enter the battlefield? a weapon or your bare hands? Unless you are the young boy David, of course, I imagine you would choose a weapon. Then why are we so apt to go to war against the enemy of our soul with only a fickle word filling our mind and we leave God’s Word forgotten?!
The Word says in Hebrews 4:13, ‘For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (NKJV).’ In the NIV, it is referenced that God’s Word is alive and active, which to me means it is ready and operative, functioning. It is also says that God’s Word penetrates. Friend, to penetrate means to pass through or into, to permeate or pervade. The Word has the capability of passing through me and into another if I care enough to learn it and share it. The Word also has the ability to infuse lives and circumstances and invade the darkness with its light.
But we have to recognize that we are in a battle, an invisible war with a disguised and deceptive enemy. Our battle likely will not resemble that of Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean, nor do you need to suit up to look like Robin Hood, but you do need to sharpen your Bible skills and tuck down inside of your suit of armor, God’s Word. So that, when the devil, who is prowling about like a lion ready to devour your soul, taunts your principles, tickles your fancies and thwarts your good intentions, you can whip out that sharpened Word from your Father and cut him to shreds.
Unfortunately, we don’t take seriously that the enemy of our souls wishes to destroy anything that is precious to God. He is not some cute little baby demon with a pitchfork for a tail. He is a fire-breathing dragon, intent on decimating God’s workmanship, which is you and me. But God promises us that if we resist the devil, he will flee from us (James 4:7). It is humbly my opinion, that, first, we need to know who our enemy is, and then, I think, one of the ways we can resist him, is to weld our weapon, the Word, in his presence. After all, our enemy despises the presence of God, and we have already learned that the Word is God.
If you are preparing your arsenal for 2021 and have not yet located your Bible and added it to your stockpile, consider not wasting another moment in doing so. It is the most advantageous and intentional weapon you can carry with you always.
