So Loved

John 3:16-17, ‘For this is how much God loved the world—He gave His one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in Him will never perish but experience everlasting life. God did not send His Son into the world to judge and condemn the world, but to be its Savior and to rescue it!’ (TPT)

The world had risen as if grown out of the depths of the sea, and the stars and planets danced across a velvet canvas, performing for the Creator. The sun and the moon navigated a continual journey of night and day and seasons much like changing moods guided everything man laid his hand to. Birds floated gracefully through the air and trees reached limbs heavenward in praise of their Maker. Flowers bowed and grasses waved. Even animals knew their Master and were led by an innate sense of subservience and ownership. There were a hundred billion reasons why the universe stood in adoration and at attention.

The Lord God took His rightful place upon the throne, His eyes roving the work of His hands. From even before the creation of the world, He had fallen, hard and fast and sure, in love with mankind. He had scooped out pockets of land, and hovered over the deep, and whispered, “Let’s make man in our image!” And that’s what They had done. He had been writing this love story forever, literally. The great Rescue Mission.

The story had taken a twist when a villain had slithered through the dirt and onto the stage, but that hadn’t gridlocked the Master or quenched the Spirit or entombed the Son. Harvests can only come from the incubation of what is planted in fertile soil, being allowed to germinate before cultivating and yielding the produce. This love of the Father was buried in the depths of His Son’s soul where it matured so it could be nurtured and harvested into a fullness of everlasting life for mankind. In His great love for His children, the Master sent His Son so they would comprehend His love and be identified with Someone Who had walked in their shoes and on their paths and He airmailed His Spirit so they would never have to walk alone.

Since the enemy entered the picture, humanity carried a target on its forehead, a death sentence, a decaying stench of existence. The harmony which once had played with the beings in the garden soon became a conspiracy, and life morphed into hide-and-seek. Mankind didn’t have much hope of any kind. The world sighed, “But God!” The Father smiled kindly. His one and only unique Son would exchange His royalty for creation’s death penalty and receive in trade the gift of eternity, a true life sentence.
