Fixer Upper

Romans 12:1-2, ‘So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don’t be so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of maturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you (MSG).’

We all love the reality show Fixer Upper and similar spinoffs. Isn’t it amazing to see professionals who know what they are doing take something that looks like it has seen better days and make some thing magnificent out of it? What someone might bulldoze, they embolden, and they make a mansion where a mess existed.
You have the same power within you. You are a Fixer Upper and you also have a Fixer Upper. We are a construction site and there is a General Contractor who is in charge of our remodel. His name is Jesus. His desire is to take what the world is tearing down and demolishing and make something brand new and beautiful from it. He desires to knock down walls and create space and make openness comfortable. He wants to make room inside of us where He is welcomed to move in and live too.

This Jesus, well, He also is an Interior Decorator, and He yearns to transform our inner chambers with love and brighten up the dark corners inside with His light. He will cast out shadows and make way for His creativity to color your home with hope. But be careful, if you hire Him for the job, He will take you seriously and will carry it out to completion. He won’t quit on you partway or have a better job to go to. He won’t cut any corners or walk away at the end of the day. He will do His best job for you with the transformation of your soul because you are a Most Important Person and His top priority, and He longs also for a great review and referral when His work in you is finished.
