I’ll Huff and I’ll Puff

Luke 6:47-49, ‘”Let Me describe the one who truly follows Me and does what I say. He is like a man who chooses the right place to build a house and then lays a deep and secure foundation. When the storms and floods rage against that house, it continues to stand strong and unshaken through the tempest, for he built it wisely on the right foundation. But the one who has heard my teaching and does not obey it is like a man who builds a house without laying any foundation at all. When the storms and floods rage against that house, it immediately collapses and becomes a total loss. Which of these two builders will you be?”’ (TPT)

What would you say is the most important part of your home? Some might say the roof; others, the walls; some might even think the doors and windows, while yet many might bet on location and size and price. We women always believe the interior design is of utmost importance. But would you be surprised to know the most important feature of your home is your foundation?

I would refute that too had I not once traveled in impoverished areas of the world or poverty-stricken inner cities. Places where homes were on spindle legs or seeping into the muck or being eaten by the ground beneath its floors. There are storms that hit, and when the hurricanes pass or the tornadoes lift, the homes that are left disheveled and condemned lay in pieces beside a barren hole, absent of any bedrock. And what remains in some areas after the home is torn from its moorings is the foundation as I don’t think I have ever seen footage of a foundation flying through the air. They are made to last, secure and firm and final. In fact, I have been fascinated while wandering through forests in Colorado and coming upon a firm foundation jutting out of the ground, sometimes accompanied by a chimney stack. Everything else has collapsed, withered, disintegrated. All that remains is what once the house rested upon.

Ephesians 6:13 says, ‘Therefore, put on the complete armor of God, so that you will be able to [successfully] resist and stand your ground in the evil day [of danger], and having done everything [that the crisis demands], to stand firm [in your place, fully prepared, immovable, victorious].’ (AMP) This, my friend, is your foundation for the ‘home’ we have been busy SpringCleaning. It is so important that you build truth brick by brick, honesty layer upon layer, character column by column, integrity block by block, stabilized by rods of hope and peace and concrete in trust and love. And when your structure is complete, to make frequent inspections that assure there are no cracks in your foundation nor any shifting in your footing. When life falls all around you, and other’s homesteads flail and fail, yours, built upon the cornerstone of Jesus, will stand strong, safe, eternal, timeless.

Come with me in March and let’s clean house!
If you are anything like me, you have kept some things around far too long and now they got to go! And with the Lord’s help, they can!
