Father, May I Trust?

FYI, DIY

Proverbs 3:5-8, ‘Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart, rely on Him to guide you, and He will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with Him in whatever you do, and He will lead you wherever you go. Don’t think for a moment that you know it all, for wisdom comes when you adore Him with undivided devotion and avoid everything that is wrong. Then you will find the healing refreshment your body and soul long for.’ (TPT)

I’m sure we have all heard and joked about our kids or spouses or even just anyone we come in contact with not coming with a manual. When we can’t figure someone out, disgruntled, we simply say off the cuff, ‘Well, ya know, they didn’t come with an instruction booklet so how could I have known?!’ But really in truth we all came with an Owner’s Manual, a Handbook and an Operating Guide. It’s called the Bible or the Word of God, and it comes in a vast variety of versions as well as in almost any language known to mankind. We just refuse to open it up and follow the instructions or review the topics in the glossary or research the How-To sections or ask its Author for Self Help tips.

Take today for instance. How do we make it in this life, this life that is crooked and complex? Well, we find that we are to trust in God, but not just trust in God a little, but, rather, completely. We are instructed to not rely upon ourselves and our own fallible human understanding, but to rely on God, and if we do so, He will be our guide. In one of the many versions of our instruction booklet, it even says that if we trust Him and acknowledge Him, He will make our paths straight. How nice to have a straight path because I have traveled on windy, twisty roads and it requires a level of expertise and attention and time when traveling on anything other than a straight path.

We read a little further in the How-To section on Revival, and we learn that there is healing refreshment available for our whole selves. If we adore Him—make Him of utmost importance; if we become devoted to Him—hunger for His instruction, His alone; if we choose His ways over our ways—this in turn helps us bypass the pitfalls and snares of this life, then we have the assurance of rejuvenation and exhilaration not only for our bodies but also for our souls. That is our very core. Life has us very fascinated with Do-It-Yourself books and Pinterest encourages us to ‘Pin it’. The Lord wants to be your instructor and my teacher as we study ways we ourselves can enjoy a productive existence as well as encourage our fellow classmates in their own missions.

I am going to try to check out my Owner’s Manual next time I am stumped about something. All too often, I google it. I seek Siri and ask Alexa when all I really need to do is pull out my Bible and search His word for my instruction, direction for my next decision, navigation for my upcoming steps, tips and troubleshooting for what has been operating improperly. If you can’t find your Handbook and need one, reach out and let me know, and I’ll send you one too so we can cease operating blindly and have proper guidelines for all our needs.

I want to know the Father’s opinion about everything!
Won’t you JOURNEY with me this month as we ask our Father, ‘MAY I?’’
