Father, May I Anchor?
May 22, 2021

Ahoy!

Hebrews 6:17b-20, ‘His purpose was immutable, so God added His vow to the promises. So it is impossible for God to lie for we know that His promise and His vow will never change! And now we have run into His heart to hide ourselves in His faithfulness. This is where we find His strength and comfort, for He empowers us to seize what has already been established ahead of time—an unshakeable hope! We have this certain hope like a strong unbreakable anchor holding our souls to God Himself. Our anchor of hope is fastened to the mercy seat in the heavenly realm beyond the sacred threshold, and where Jesus, our forerunner, has gone in before us. He is now and forever our royal Priest, like Melchizedek.’ (TPT)

There is nothing more reassuring than being anchored firm and steadfast, no matter what the circumstance. Once there was this tremendous windstorm that blew up at a family reunion, and while the air was infiltrated with sand and dirt, bugs and trash, we sat secure inside our tents because they were anchored with stakes to the ground. Likewise, houses on firm foundations and villages on strong moorings in the midst of storms lend comfort and stability whereas lives not built on foundations that are permanent and durable rather are shifting and often found at sea or “We’re not in Kansas anymore!”

So it is with Christ. No matter what storm your life enters into—and let me just say this here, you are either in one, have just come through one or about to enter into a storm as this is a fact of life—if you find yourself secure in Jesus, you can also be sure that He has your life anchored on His durable promises. In addition, you can be assured of something else. We all know too well how with any storm, a vessel that has not thrown its anchor overboard will be shifted and tossed or turbulent waters. This also can be a very accurate picture of our lives as well, if we have not thrown overboard the anchor of Jesus Christ in to the deep unsettled ebbs and flow of life. However, with Him as our anchor, we can face violent and fierce gales, tempestuous and stormy seas, and yet remain steadfast and stable with Him at our helm.

It is easy to shipwreck in this life. Everyday we are faced with very real possibilities of disaster, being tossed to and fro in the dinghys of this world. Our insurance is only found in Jesus where we can be fastened and tethered to His purposes for our lives, anchored and assured that calmer waters are on the horizon as we coast with Him.

I want to know the Father’s opinion about everything!
