Two Heads

Isaiah 1:16-18, ‘”Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow. Come now; and let us reason together,” says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”’ (NKJV)

We’ve always heard, ‘Two heads are better than one’. What of it when one of the heads is God Almighty? Isn’t that incredible, that the God of the Universe would want to sit down and reason with one of us, with humanity?! What an offer of commitment, a solid ‘I Do’ from this God, to be willing to discuss anything with mankind.

Many people view God as this totalitarian ruler, this angry old judge sitting at His pulpit with a heavy yellowed olden King James Bible in one hand and a leaden gavel in the other. They have been told somewhere along the way that He is a firm arbitrator and hellbent on ruling with an iron fist and casting out judgment no matter the consequences. Those people have never been introduced to my God who wears love on His sleeve; whose heart encompasses the world because that’s where the world was birthed from—His heart; who cares about your and my outcome for the rescue of many more; who is a jealous God because He doesn’t want to lose even one; who gave everything He had—His only Son—to secure forever with His children. The list is endless. But many never hear about that God. And what a tragic thing that is because this is the God who desires to reason with mankind, to make a decision and a plan together. This God is the One who white-washes our lives with His grace to be a clean slate with nary a mark, not even that eraser mark, evident to be seen or reminiscent of a shady past. This is the God who sets us each free.

What a promise ‘I Do’ is! Whether we are committing to a person
or simply being intentional in life, our word should be a cherished commodity.
This month, journey with me in ‘I Do’ moments which are an oath, a vow, a pact,
a pledge, an honorarium.
