A Proverb a day keeps Untruth away

Proverbs 1:1-6, ‘These are the wise sayings of Solomon, David’s son, Israel’s king—written down so we’ll know how to live well and right, to understand what life means and where it’s going; a manual for living, for learning what’s right and just and fair; to teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality. There’s something here also for seasoned men and women, still a thing or two for the experienced to learn—fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate, the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women.’ (MSG)

Prescription (RX) Eight: Worth Waiting For

Proverbs 8:12-14, ‘”For I am Wisdom, and I am shrewd and intelligent. I have at my disposal living-understanding to devise a plan for your life. Wisdom pours into you when you begin to hate every form of evil in your life, for that’s what worship and fear of God is all about. Then you will discover that your pompous pride and perverse speech are the ways of wickedness that I hate! You will find true success when you find me, for I have insight into wise plans that are designed just for you. I hold in my hands living-understanding, courage and strength.”’ (TPT)

I think it is safe to say that Wisdom is an attribute that is very important to the Lord, and it is a characteristic He wishes His children to possess. In fact, from everything we are learning and reading in Proverbs, He views it as a key to success, finding Wisdom, and thus wisely discerning the plans and purposes the Lord has designated specifically for each of us.

How do we know the plans the Lord has for His children? I think Wisdom has a large part to play in that discovery. I am not going to learn what God purposes for me hanging out in unwise venues and making silly choices and being foolish. I know that because this is where I once lived my life, at an intersection that was wrong for me, where I chose to compromise God’s best.
But I will begin to understand His purpose for my life by studying His Word and gaining Wisdom from godly influences who counsel me in His ways and by seeking His face for direction. I also know this because when the Lord finally got my attention, and I let go of the reckless and fickle pursuits I had been endlessly chasing after, He removed scales from my eyes that allowed me to see. I was able then to meet Wisdom and began walking along her path and learning her teaching.

The difference in those two pathways is more extreme than the mind can humanly understand. We see differently based upon our quest. If the world and all its glitter and embellishments, all the many splendid things it has to offer, is important, then we seek to achieve those earthly trappings. Let’s face it, things of this world are temporal, and often do not fulfill the longings of our heart. See, we were created with a God-sized hole in each one of us, and the only desire that truly will fill that void is relationship with God Himself. He built that within each of us and we endlessly search for something to be enough. We seek things from secular passions to fulfill what only the One Who created us can supply because He designed us just that way.
However, if our pursuit is after the Lord, and we make His desire our desire, then Wisdom shows up as a many splendored and majestic inclination, and this changes everything. How we see ourselves and others and the world in which we live—all He opens our eyes to—is wildly amazing, compassionately revealing. We are never the same again. This is the beginning of Wisdom.

I encourage you to do your own study of Proverbs as well as follow along with me! How it works: take a Proverb a day (there are 31, so perfect for the month of August) and read the chapter that corresponds with the day. Then stop on a verse that grips your attention. Focus on the verse(s) for the day as it is highly possible the Holy Spirit is speaking to you through what He helped you unearth. It’s almost like a Treasure Hunt! I will share with you this month Golden Nuggets the Holy Spirit leads me to, and I would love to have you share with me what He reveals to you in your mining excavation also!
