A Proverb a day keeps Untruth away

Proverbs 1:1-6, ‘These are the wise sayings of Solomon, David’s son, Israel’s king—written down so we’ll know how to live well and right, to understand what life means and where it’s going; a manual for living, for learning what’s right and just and fair; to teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality. There’s something here also for seasoned men and women, still a thing or two for the experienced to learn—fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate, the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women.’ (MSG)

Prescription (RX) Twenty-Seven:

Proverbs 27:19, ‘Just as water mirrors your face so your face mirrors yours heart.’ (MSG)

What I am feeling and thinking I know often is mirrored on my face. I can try to hide it; I can have intentions to not disclose my inner self, but no matter how hard I try, I know it is registered there across my face.

Have you ever come across the person though who has the poker face? You literally cannot tell anything because there is a façade. You can’t tell when they are joking. Or if they are serious. That is so opposite to the person who displays everything, always. I am somewhere in between, my emotions written across my face, but my discernment usually remains aloof while my spirit investigates.

Masks have changed so much for us also because now it is difficult to see anyone’s expression. True, eyes are the mirror to the soul, but being unable to see the entire puzzle, and only pieces, makes it impossible to know where the stray pieces might fit. If they even fit. I believe there is an enemy of our souls that wants us to be hidden, who wants our faces cloaked so as not to reveal the true intent of a person’s heart. Regardless, we have the ability if we so choose to expose our innermost selves, or the choice to hide behind masks and faces, thereby, veiling our hearts.

There was One once upon a time Who exposed all of Himself, laid His heart bare for mankind. He revealed the intense everlasting love affair His Father had for humanity, spread unfurled on a cross, a present ripped wide open, the grace like falling tendrils of ribbon from a package. His eyes pierced us, saw through us; they mirrored the love of a Father for His children for all time. Isn’t that the least we can do in return? Mirror His love for others upon our face? They will know we are different, we are Christians, by our love.
