A LOVE STORY
January 31, 2021
Romans 9:20-21, ‘But who do you think you are to second-guess God? How could a human being molded out of clay say to the one who molded him, “Why in the world did you make me this way?” Or are you denying the right of the potter to make out of clay whatever he wants? Doesn’t the potter have the right to make the same lump of clay an elegant vase or an ordinary pot (MSG)?’
The Master Potter, stooped and wizened with age, entered His workshop through the back door from the narrow cobblestone path that led there. He needn’t flick on the light switch because the Son shone through the dusty panes. His warmth filled the room and even the dustmites stood to attention. Birds carelessly twittered, announcing His arrival, and the day gave way to a promise. It was like the world held its breath, waiting to see what He chose next.
Studiously, He looked down the long workbench; His gaze settling on me. I heard Him exhale gracefully. I tried to make myself disappear, but I felt His eyes still on me through the cracks in the wooden bench and the missing knotholes. The wheel whirred to life and I sighed. I knew what was coming as He shuffled toward me. His fingers gnarled with the test of time and talent were gracious and gentle as He took me in His own. I felt His breath upon me; my lungs began to fill with existence and possibility. Out of the mud I began to form as He ever so cautiously hovered over me, bringing nothingness into being.
I was clay in the Potter’s hand that day. The old creating the new; the assurance building the dream. The patient sculpting and delicate fashioning of my innermost secrets resembled hope. I watched as I began to take shape in His plan and I suddenly saw myself through His eyes. He worked carefully, painstakingly, tirelessly, until everything was to His liking. The process was long and arduous as He brought me to life but once I saw me through His lens why would I ever yearn to be anything different than who He fashioned me to be?
During the month of February, come with me as we JOURNEY through the greatest LOVE STORY ever written.
