the Word

John 1:14, ‘The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside and out, true from start to finish (MSG).’

The Lord God knew the time had come and the story was just about to get good. The world He so loved had been wandering haphazardly for a very lengthy time and the chronicle He’d been writing had been silent long enough. That hush was about to break and the darkness that enveloped man would soon be pierced by the Light. The Creator had chosen to let the curtain fall and the forbidding anonymity of mankind cast an ominous obscurity across the world stage. Humanity would be just ready enough for a Savior when the curtain was lifted, anticipating something other than the depth of drudgery, awaiting a new forecast in the midst of their self-inflicted storms, welcoming a declaration of hope.

And that is exactly Who His Son was cast to be, Glory and Wonder. He existed among the people and they did not recognize Him as anything special. The people didn’t expect that deity would come dressed as a common carpenter from a simple village, but this carpenter arrived with the blueprint of the Father and the tools with which to repair mankind. Soon His ambiguity would be today’s headline and Jesus would no longer be able to go unnoticed. Jehovah Jireh (the Provider) had wanted the people needy enough to receive what He had sent to them. And they were, they were looking in the wrong places though, and unsuspecting, and this would rattle their worlds.

Jesus was just breaking onto the scene although He had lived among them now for a fistful of years. The Master looked at His creation and was moved by many conflicting emotions, so much compassion that caused Him to be separated so He could be sent to this dying world but also this God-sized hole when He looked at mankind which His Son was willing to fill. And through it all, the Father remembered the day Abraham had climbed the mountain, lugging in his heart the secret for the sacrifice, followed by the boy Isaac who carried wood for the altar. He swiped a tear aside, knowing soon His Son would also carry wood for the altar and He the Father alone bore the secret for the sacrifice which would redeem mankind.

Except this time, there would be no ram that appeared from a thicket, no angel to save the day, no other provision or exoneration. He dreaded what was to come but the Lord God knew it was the only way that mankind could come to the Father except through the Son. He knew the Son would now be the demonstration of His great love for mankind in that He would lay down their willingness, and take upon Himself, all sin for all time, to make a dirty people cleansed enough to become the righteousness of the Father. There was only one way, and it was through the Son, to reach the Father. Everything else had failed, but this time, this love would prevail. The Creator spoke, and out of the Words of His mouth came Jesus, the full Expression of a beating heart for His creation.
