Angel’s In the Mail Room

Technically I was born with both Canadian and U.S. Citizenship, however my U.S. Citizenship wasn’t declared at birth. After a long series of events where God miraculously told us to sell everything but my husbands shop equipment and move to the United States, we had to hire a lawyer to prove it. This took weeks of going back and forth between authorities and my lawyer. We were in the final stages. I was given a limited number of days to supply my lawyer with a long list of documents proving I was indeed eligible for citizenship.

It was a Friday afternoon. I was on the verge of panicking. After speaking with my lawyer I realized that I had express posted my original documents to the wrong address!

Because it was the weekend I couldn’t call until Monday, and when Monday arrived I discovered that it was President’s day in the U.S. and the postal services were closed. We sat for three days claiming Bible promises and trying not to worry.

Tuesday morning I called U.S.P.S. They were kind but told me Canada had a rule that prevented them from changing the address. My mind is foggy as to who and how many times I called, but I called multiple times and places always coming to a dead end. Finally I called the main post office in the city my package was addressed to. I spoke with an understanding lady but was informed that her office didn’t deal with hand delivered mail. She referred me to the Pasco post office. At the time Pasco was a sorting hub which processed large amounts of mail. I called the number only to hear it to ring and ring and ring. I persistently hung on and finally a man answered the phone. I told him my plight and he kindly started to take down my information. When I told him the incorrect address he stopped and had me repeat it. He then said, “I have this package in my hands, it will be delivered tomorrow!”

There was no doubt in our minds that we had experienced a miracle! God could have prevented me from addressing it wrong in the first place, but He had other plans for us. He wanted to remind us that He had everything in control.

The following months proved to be some of the most faith building but challenging experiences we have ever faced. God in His great love had reminded us that He is faithful and no matter the circumstance He would never fail us.

Psalm 104: 28-31

“Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,
and He brought them out of their distress.
He calmed the storm to a whisper,
and the waves of the sea were hushed.
They rejoiced in the silence,
and He guided them to the harbor they desired.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion
and His wonders to the sons of men.”
