Reading in Colossians chapter four today. It is the final chapter of this book and it seems fitting that Paul would close out the book by encouraging the church of Colossae to continue to pray for him and those who labor with him. It is believed that Paul was imprisoned in Rome when he penned this book, yet he was still about the Father’s business.
At the beginning of the chapter, we read that master’s should give unto their servants fairly because they too have a Master in Heaven. Paul is telling them that no matter who they are or their position at work, within the church or wherever, they must always treat others with respect and equality. We are all called to serve one another in some form or fashion. It is in this serving that we must treat each other with fairness. Meaning, we need to respect others as we respect ourselves because we are all equal in God’s sight.
Paul then mentions several people who he is sending to various places. I found it interesting that he mentioned a certain few by name. See, Onesimus, ran away from his master, Philemon. Marcus abandoned Paul. Then there is Demas who also leaves Paul, as we read about in later books.
LadyBug, this is such a wonderful chapter about being equal and forgiving. Just as our Master, the Father, is both of those to us. We are to forgive those who sometimes abandon us and if need be welcome them back into our lives.
Let us always treat others with equality and know that we all come home at some point!
