Today we find ourselves in the book of Mark chapter 13. What a chapter! Full of so much information that we need to soothe and comfort our spirits. But not only that, it contains a very important instruction. Watch. One word, yet so much meaning.
In this chapter, Mark is recalling the instruction from Jesus regarding the end of times and the signs that will come. I don’t believe the signs are in any specific order; thus, Jesus isn’t saying that first thing one will happen, then thing two, then thing three, and so on. I believe Jesus is giving us a sample of what is to come in a general sense. He wants us to know that there are many things that we will experience in the last days, but God will always be with us if we choose to remain faithful.
We see many of these things in today’s world, especially in the U.S. However, I have to ask myself, does the rest of the world see these things in their own nations? Does Italy experience child trafficking? Does Germany know the pain of children killing parents as they sleep? I also had to ponder this thought: Could the violence that is spoken about in this passage possibly be spiritual violence within the church? Stay with me, friend. How often do we see one church disputing with another? What about the brother in Christ at odds with another over a position within the church? You say these things are common, which yes they are, but what about those who betray others unto the spiritual death? What if jealousy compels a brother or sister to lead with malice in their heart causing the other to put down the calling and walk away from the battle, thus resulting in spiritual death? There are many false teachings in our society today and we must remain diligent to line up what we hear with the Word of God. Many false teachers lead others away from God, ending in spiritual death.
This is why Jesus told us to watch. He wants us to be able to discern truth from lies. He wants us to know the way, the truth, and the life-giving Word of God. You can rest assured that what we experience will not look like what we think we will experience.
LadyBug, it’s so hard to know what to expect in these last days. Jesus plainly says no one will know the hour or day, yet we try to use this information from Jesus to try and decipher the mystery of His coming. We can’t be led to believe that since the word church is associated with a building or name, that it is safe to follow the teaching from the pulpit. We have to line it up and make sure our spirit woman knows it is true according to the Word of God. It is important that we seek Him daily and watch according to His Word and the Holy Spirit.
Let us give way for our spirit to understand and let us be ever watching for our Savior with and expectancy of Love and Hope.
