Blind Faith

Many people, including myself, love to go for walks on lovely trails or walking paths or even more adventurous terrain like hiking through the mountains. They simply grab some water in a back pack, toss a snack or two in as well and lace up their walking shoes. With each step there may be obstacles to navigate, pit-falls to avoid, or blocked trails that need to be rerouted. I’ve taken many hikes and walks over my life-time and while I’ve always loved the activity, it looks a little different for me.

The smell of the air in any given season is distinct when you walk. In the Summer, it’s thick with floral scents. In Autumn, it’s crisp and clean with hints of earth and leaves seeming to take their final bow for the season with a flourish of colors. In Winter, the smell is nothing less then clean, untainted and fresh with a kiss of warm fires burning in near-by homes trying to nest. In the Spring there is newness of life with fragrances of budding green leaves and blossoms.

What ever season, or all seasons, you prefer to walk in, there is always just that… a season. Each season of life will have steps and stillness. Movement and motionless. Bounty and bottom of the barrel. It’s how we walk through these seasons that matter.

When I do go on walks, or even just walking through a store, I need to walk with someone. I hold their arm so I don’t walk into something and get injured. This is called walking by “sighted guide”. As a blind woman, I often don’t know the path in front of me. I don’t know if it’s rough and rocky or smooth and straight. Not until my foot hits the trail in each step do I know. I rely on my sighted guide to lead me and guide my steps. This of course needs to be someone I trust.

The person I trust most to do this is my husband. He knows me best and knows the cues to give and I trust his leading. I must have Blind Faith to be lead in this way.

But then we all need blind faith, don’t we? We don’t know what obstacles lie before us in any season of life. We don’t know if our path will be rough and rocky or smooth and straight. Only God knows! He is the one who leads and we can simply take His arm in “Blind Faith”.

2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

You see, we are all blind and need God to lead us. We all need Him as a sighted guide. He knows the cues to give and how to lead us on each path we are on in each season. The paths we take will have many different twists and turns, up’s and down’s, around’s and through’s, but just take God’s arm and let Him be your guide.
