Five year old Penny Brown is slightly different from the other boys and girls in her kindergarten class. She must sit in a wheelchair and cannot jump rope or slide down the big slide like all of her classmates, which make her very sad. However, Penny finds support from her friends and family. Her friend Amy helps Penny focus on the activities that she can do in her wheelchair, like kick a ball with her left foot, play with dolls, and draw beautiful pictures. Her mommy and daddy also help her to be kind to other people and to know when to ask for help. When Josh, a new student, comes to school, will Penny find comfort in something they have in common? Author Brittany Crawford has lived with cerebral palsy since she was nine months old; however, she is not confined to a wheelchair. Since her disability prevents her from driving, Crawford spends much of her time writing, including her weekly article, “The Cecil Round Up,” published in her local Arkansas newspaper “The Spectator.” She is active in the Cecil Methodist Church and the Franklin County Book Club. Crawford plans to create an I Will Be Okay series and is working on an adult memoir based on the adventures she and her illustrator, Michelle Oakley, encountered during a vacation. Illustrator Michelle Oakley is 21 and lives with her parents in Sperry, Oklahoma. She loves to draw and never lets her disability get in the way of her artistic ability. I am working on a special 4th book in the Tilly Green series. When I am not writing, I volunteer at a day care, paint chalk pictures and read.
