Brittany’s Book Nook: She Said Yes by Misty Bernall

April 20th, 1999 is a day our nation would not forget. That single day shattered many families, and wreaked emotional havoc on the entire city of Littleton, Colorado. Two teenagers in the Bernall family left for school that Tuesday morning, but only only of them came home. School is supposed to be a safe place to send your kids. However, on April 20th, 1999 the classroom was anything but safe. On that day, seventeen year old Cassie Bernall was asked an important question.

“Do you believe in God?”

Her answer was “yes.” However that one word would ultimately cost Cassie her life. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebald, two fellow classmates opened fire in the Columbine High School library and classrooms. She Said Yes is a book written by Cassie’s mother Misty detailing her life. Misty even revealed that her daughter did not always believe in God. In fact, she was often depressed and at one time could have been pegged as one of the columbine shooters herself. She Said Yes is a very important book that all teens should read together with their parents. This incident took place twenty-two years ago. However, the factors that led to it are still an issue in today’s society. Some say Eric and Dylan were depressed. I am here to tell the teens of today that no matter what you face-trouble with friends, parents, school, etc, it is important that you talk to someone about how you are feeling. Help and hope is out there for you.
