Cryptic Pregnancies & The Second Coming
My husband rolls his eyes at us and thinks we’re crazy, but my oldest daughter and I both have a fascination with stories of women giving birth without even knowing they were pregnant. Maybe it’s partly envy not only did I know I was pregnant while I carried our daughters, everyone who saw me also knew, it was absolutely no secret! Several years ago I watched a series of dramatized stories of dazed unsuspecting women giving birth in the most bazaar situations. Some of those stories were akin to horror stories when you thought of where their baby nearly landed! My emotions flip back and forth between shuttering and sheer bewilderment. How in the world is that even possible. Didn’t they know the signs? As absurd as it may seem it is more common than you would think.
Jesus Himself warns of another event not too different than an unsuspecting woman being wheeled into the delivery room. “When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. People didn’t realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away…” Matthew 24:37-39 NLT “Everything is peaceful and secure, then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.” 1 Thessalonians 5:3 NLT
When I was pregnant I was given a copy of the very popular book “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” I nearly wore the pages ragged as I studied what to expect month by month leading up to the climax of birthing. I didn’t miss the faintest kick, or a single Braxton Hicks contraction. I noted everything. I was excited! I again find myself referencing a “Book” looking for every sign. I’m excited! I don’t want to be caught off guard. 2 Timothy 3 tells us the conditions are right. We are in the last part of the third trimester. “…in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly.” 2 Timothy 3:2-5 NLT It’s rather sobering. If you flip back to Matthew there are specific indications that time is short. “Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.” Matthew 24:7 & 8 NLT Do you see any of this happening??? I would like to interject something I recently learned. Take note the phrase “Nation will go to war against nation”. The Strong’s Concordance defines nation as “from etho; a race, i.e. A tribe..” hmmm… could the unrest we are currently seeing actually be an event we should be expecting? Something to think about for sure.
While still in the delivery-room, after giving birth to our first daughter, I asked my husband if he would be ok with only one child. He reassured me that yes, one would be enough. As soon I was handed our bright eyed baby girl, the trauma of birthing quickly faded. Three and a half years later I was holding daughter number two. I can relate to what Jesus said referring to end time events and I take it as a promise! “It will be like a woman suffering the pains of labor. When her child is born, her anguish gives way to joy because she has brought a new baby into the world.” John 16:21 “He will remove all of the sorrows, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. For the old world and its evils are gone forever” Revelation 21:4 NLT
