EMERGE! ‘Bloom Where You Are Planted’
A Season to Plant: Sow What
March 14th, 2022
Luke 8:15, ‘The seed that fell into good, fertile soil represents those lovers of truth who hear it deep within their hearts. They respond by clinging to the Word, keeping it clear as they endure all things in faith. This is the seed that will one day bear much fruit in their lives.’ (TPT)
‘Sow a thought, reap an action.
Sow an action, reap a habit.
Sow a habit, reap a character.
Sow a character, reap a destiny.’ (Samuel Smiles)
For every seed one plants, some thing comes up. Right? And if you plant seeds for carrots, you should expect carrots to come up, and from a peach tree, I wouldn’t be looking for oranges. They may be the same color, but they are not even remotely similar kinds of fruit! In fact, one is sweet, the other is somewhat sour. Again, if you sow anger, you will reap products of anger, such as resentment, bitterness and frustration; and if you plant joy, it is certain you will harvest similar attributes, like comfort, exultation and peace. One must not expect to pick wealth from a tree that was planted in the soil of poor planning or even poverty.
I am a student of the ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People’. In fact, I believe so much in the life principles and integral values taught by the late Stephen Covey, it has become a lifestyle for me. This is where I first heard the above-referenced quote from Samuel Smiles. In many ways, it expounds on the Biblical principle, ‘You reap what you sow.’ Galatians 6:7-9 says (in TPT), ‘God will never be mocked! For what you plant will always be the very thing you harvest. The harvest you reap reveals the seed that you planted. If you plant the corrupt seeds of self-life into this natural realm, you can expect a harvest of corruption. If you plant the good seeds of Spirit-life you will reap beautiful fruits that grow from the everlasting life of the Spirit. And don’t allow yourselves to be weary in planting good seeds, for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming!’ We cannot sow dissension and expect to reap camaraderie, or discontent and hope to harvest satisfaction and fulfillment. It is important and we should be very cautious to consider our motivations and choices, reasons and desired results. Dr. Covey teaches we ‘are to be Proactive (Habit 1) and Begin with the End in Mind (Habit 2) and put First Things First (Habit 3) to travel auspiciously through the Private Victory so we might enter the Public Victory successfully and timely’, a prime example that we reap rewardingly…sow what?
One of the greatest things you and I can ever do is BLOOM where we are PLANTED. Beautiful things grow from the fertile soil of a willing heart.
