Knight in Shining Armor
Ephesians 6:11-13, ‘Put on God’s complete set of armor provided for us, so that you will be protected as you fight against the evil strategies of the accuser! Your hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings, but with the highest principalities and authorities operating in rebellion under the heavenly realms. For they are a powerful class of demon-gods and evil spirits that hold this dark world in bondage. Because of this, you must wear all the armor that God provides so you’re protected as you confront the slanderer, for you are destined for all things and will rise victorious!’ (TPT)
Yesterday we learned that we have an entire suit of armor that we can don to protect us from the enemy’s outlandish plots. We are in a real-life battle, and just as you don’t see our military brother and sisters heading into combat in their 501 Levis and Polos and loafers, we shouldn’t either head into this war, poorly attired. First, we are going to wrap around us the belt of truth. Think about the belt you use to hold your trousers up and imagine that this belt of truth is going to accomplish the same thing. It is going to hold you all together, girded and strengthened so you can stand triumphantly. Next, we intend to pull on holiness and righteousness as a protective breastplate which covers our heart. We will shod our feet with the gospel of peace, ready to go and share the amazing story of God’s love at a moment’s notice. Now we must put on the helmet of salvation, necessary to protect our fragile minds and imaginations from the lies of the enemy.
We are now suited, but as in any battle, we must carry a shield, so we grasp in one hand, a shield of faith to ward off the wily schemes of Satan, who is our opposition. He is sneaky and cunning, slithering in dark and hidden places, so it is best if we stay in the light on well-known paths. Lastly, and most importantly, take up in your other hand your most useful, practical and necessary weapon: your Sword, Sword of the Spirit, the eternal Word of God. It is sharper than any double-edged knife; it cuts to the quick and pierces the darkness with its Truth.
And as always, it is wise to be surrounded by your militia comrades. We are in this life together, and how beautiful to do battle with one another on behalf of one another. ‘So pray passionately in the Spirit, as you constantly intercede for one another with every form of prayer at all times.’ (v.18b)
He reigns! Jesus victorious! He fought and overcame death, hell and the grave, rose triumphantly, and is now seated at the right-hand of the Father. He will reign forevermore and we will reign with Him someday soon!
I want to know the Father’s opinion about everything!
Won’t you JOURNEY with me this month as we ask our Father, ‘MAY I?’’
