God Spoke
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 (CSB)
In the first 26 verses of Genesis, we learn of God creating the heavens, the earth, the animals, the plants and man. This is where we first learn of the power of God. We see this power because there was no hoopla or days of construction, nope, none at all. There was simply the Father and His voice speaking to the universe. His voice resonated and creation took place. At His words everything moved and shifted into place according to His will. When He said mountain, the rocks and dirt formed the mountains. When He spoke to the water, it gathered into oceans. That is the power of God. How amazing is that??
So as I think about the beginning and how all of this has a part in the celebration of the birth of Christ, I find myself in awe knowing that all of this had to take place in order for us to know Jesus as our Savior. God knew what was going to take place as He created the Garden of Eden. He knew the choice Eve would make when the serpent spoke. Yet, He still chose to create it all! You know as well as I do, that if God had chosen not to allow the serpent to speak, the woman would not have heard and man would not have listened. He could have decided not to create the serpent or the tree. But God in is wonderous and infinite wisdom chose to create it all anyway. Giving us free will and knowing what choice would be made, He still created with His voice. Knowing His Son would be the ultimate sacrifice, He spoke creation. He spoke life.
He spoke to the virgin’s womb and His Son became God on earth. Knowing what would come for Him, God still chose to speak life. Now this right here became the game changer. Because God felt that we were worth it all, He spoke our redeemer into life. Just wow!! You see, at any moment, God can change it all again. He can speak anything into life. He didn’t do this just because we deserve it, on the contrary, He did it because we can’t do it ourselves. We cannot restore ourselves to the relationship that God wanted for each of us in the beginning. We can only speak that life into ourselves when we speak the choice of choosing Jesus as our Savior. Jesus was born so that we could accept the redemption that God offers through the sacrifice of His Son. Even though the serpent brought destruction to that relationship, God chooses to offer restoration and life eternal in Heaven. Glory!!!
This led me to think about the birth of Christ and why we celebrate Christmas. We celebrate because Jesus came so that we may be made spotless through forgiveness of our sins. We celebrate because Jesus is hope and this hope walked on earth in order that we would come to know the Father through the Son. This is love. This is joy. This is the gift of eternity. Because of this hope Matthew 1:21 says we can rejoice in the redemption plan of God.
God spoke and created the world.
The serpent spoke and destroyed the relationship.
God spoke and created the Savior.
Man spoke and condemned the Son.
Jesus spoke and forgave us all!!
