HAND ME DOWN
What it means to be CHOSEN
June 2nd, 2023
Colossians 3:12-14, ‘So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.’ (MSG)
Hand Me Down
Discarded, tainted, tattered, too small.
I got the leftovers, the remnants from all.
Bruised and buried, torn from the earth.
I might have been special, but I came out of dirt.
Even this heart, born in my chest,
Could’ve been better. It wasn’t the best.
“Special” and “Fitting”—words everyone spoke,
About all the others while I was the joke.
What was my purpose? Must I borrow it too?
Wasn’t there something for me,
that was perfectly new?
Sizes too big, dreams not too deep
I must be hopeful, instead of asleep.
He took all the remnants,
the swatches, the threads.
He sewed them together,
He fashioned, then said,
“Child, you are chosen,
you are birthed from My dream,
You are planned and you’re purposed;
you are part of My team.
“I loved you and made you
from the dirt and My breath
And the heart I placed in you,
was bought by My death.
So, put on the robe, and here is My ring.
I don’t see a hand-me-down.
I see the child of a King!
you are His REMNANT
