Here’s To All The Dads
Anyone can be a “father” but not everyone can be a dad. Here is my tribute to the dads, especially to my dad, who was always there for me and to my husband, who parents our three children every day. Wendy Gutierrez
On the day that you were born, he was there to hold you tight,
As your exhausted mama tried to sleep, he rocked you through the night,
And when you opened your eyes, he was there with a big smile,
Ready to get to know you and help you with your personal style.
On the day you took your first step, he was by your side,
Ready to catch you if you fell or into chairs collided,
As you sang your first song, he was ready to applaud,
With his big grin, he watched you with camera and tripod.

On the day you went to kindergarten, he guided you to the door,
He smiled and didn’t show his tears, threatening more and more,
You learned to read, how to count and how to love your teacher,
He listened to all your stories at night and helped you with your reader.
And when you participated in sports, he gave you good advice,
Such as, “keep your eye on the ball” and “you may need a little ice,”
And when you started your first job, he was immensely proud,
He bought up all your lemonade and praised you out loud.

And on your graduation day, he will be the first to cheer,
The new world will feel difficult, but you will know he’s near.
And when you leave your parent’s house, he will await your call,
And say “yes, stop by anytime and we will kick the soccer ball.”
Someday you will call and tell him “A baby is coming soon!”
He will be so excited, he will be over the moon,
And when the baby comes, he will say she looks like you,
He will be ready for adventures, to love somebody new.

A great tribute to the men who are called Dad. They play a vital role in the lives of their children.
