How To Create A Lasting Relationship with God

Have you ever wondered how to create a lasting relationship with God? Perhaps your faith journey began as a young child or maybe in adulthood. Either way, a relationship with God is important and vital to growing in faith.

Scripture shares the creation story in the Old Testament book of Genesis. God gave each creation a specific and unique purpose. God created humans and we are called to share His message. Reading the Bible can help deepen our faith and help us to show others the love and mercy of God. Fellowship with other Christians can guide us to lead others to Him. Sharing time with unbelievers can also aid in helping others develop a relationship with God.

The Father calls us to serve others and to show His love in our words and actions.

Perhaps you or someone you know learned about God as a child. Maybe you or another person came to know the Lord in adulthood. Everyone has their faith journey and timeline for having a relationship with God.

At any age, when we ask Jesus to come into our hearts and we repent of sin, the connection with God deepens. God knew us before we knew Him. God waits for us to seek Him. He never leaves. If we stray, God looks for us and brings us back to Him.
Our choice is whether or not to accept His forgiveness and love.

The faith journey continues when we choose to have a lasting relationship with God. Our path is one of learning, trusting, having faith in God, and sharing that faith.

Once we accept God, the faith journey begins and has an opportunity to grow.

The connection we have with God allows us to know Him and to be able to help others to know the Father. We do not want to grow complacent or stale in our faith.

Think of how exercise benefits the body and mind. Having a meaningful bond with God benefits us and those around us.

“He answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27 NIV)

Ways to create a lasting relationship with God:

  • Begin each day with prayers of thanksgiving and praise.
  • Pray throughout the day. Thank God for His blessings and mercy.
  • Share conversation with God. Give Him your worries and your praises.
  • Tell others about God and how you are impacted by His love and mercy.
  • Read Scripture daily. Ask clergy if you have questions.
  • Share time with other Christians.
  • Share time with non-Christians and show His love.
  • Ask God for wisdom, discernment, and revelation.
  • End each day with prayers of thanksgiving and praise.

God is waiting to share time with His children. His love and mercy are new every morning.

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” (1 John 4:7 NIV)

These are great tips! It’s important to stay in connection with God so we can share his word and others may know him.

    • Thank you so much Jessica. Our connection with God is vital. Have a blessed day! 🙂

  • I’m always so blessed by your posts, Melissa. I’m so glad that when we stray away, the Lord comes searching for us to bring us back. That’s a reassuring principle for parents of teens or grown adults also, that the Lord will always pursue them and bring them back if they wander.

    • Thank you for your kind words and encouragement Melinda. I pray you enjoy a blessed day. 🙂

  • Love your list of tips, Melissa. And this is a great statement. “God is waiting to share time with His children. His love and mercy are new every morning.”
