I DO! – Introduction – May 31st

I DO
May 31, 2021

It’s really quite fitting to say ‘I Do’
With a colorful sunset or in morning dew
When flowers fresh are on the vine
Or with Beethoven and a glass of wine
When the world is right and the wrong is gone
The future is bright and resplendent the dawn.
You warm the cold feet and ignore the warning,
We all know joy follows the mourning.
But what do you say when it’s inside out?
Do you mutter ‘I Do’ or instead do you shout?
Are you crazy?! I can’t! I don’t feel ‘I Do’!
I DO NOT actually want to even see you!
When the party has ended, and the chips are down,
And the future you planned has all turned around.
When the honeymoon’s over, so is the like.
Was there love ever? You wonder now…YIKES!
Your stomach inside seems it is congealing.
Somehow, you’ve lost that lovin’ feeling.
What do you do when the words fall away
When you know inside the Lord tells you to stay.
So we mumble ‘I Do’ sometimes without thought;
There’s much more to this that we forgot.
Whether marriage or intentions or ‘I Do’ to God,
It’s a slippery slope that often we trod.
It’s hard to stick in there, stay stuck like glue.
Your ‘I Do’ moment is about more than you.
It’s about forever and the silent amens;
Viewing life through a different lens.
No one wins; everyone loses.
Certainly not what anyone chooses.
When it’s darkest and heavy; you’ve had your fill,
Perhaps sigh and try to utter ‘I Will’.
‘I Will’ to the questions, the hope and the gripe;
‘I Won’t’ to the loss and the hurt and the hype.
Life is a puzzle. God has the pieces for you,
He’ll give you the ability to keep your ‘I Do’.

What a promise ‘I Do’ is! Whether we are committing to a person
or simply being intentional in life, our word should be a cherished commodity.
This month, journey with me in ‘I Do’ moments which are an oath, a vow, a pact,
a pledge, an honorarium.
