Perfect Peace
Isaiah 26:3-4, ‘You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.’ (ESV)
Another ‘I Do’ from your Heavenly Father that is dependent on your ‘I Do’ is promised in Isaiah and is referenced above. We find that as our trust grows in the Lord, when we learn to depend on His faithfulness to keep His Word to us, that peace settles about us much like a soft blanket on a winter evening or a gentle breeze on a hot, humid day. I love this promise because I am certainly not a stranger to letting my mind wander and play tricks on me. I can imagine many things and get myself all worked up and flustered and the root of that for me begins with me trusting not in the Lord but relying on something as temporal and treacherous as this life. Just like a snap of the fingers, I can find my thoughts as jumbled as a word-find puzzle, trying to work it all out in my head, attempting to create some semblance of normalcy when in truth, all that occurs is chaos that puts me in a crisis mode.
But there is a promise that is in opposition to oppression, and that is keeping my thoughts in tune with Jesus, staying myself on track with my Father. As I think on things of Jesus, ponder and concentrate on His goodness, reflect on His love, remember all that He has done for me, there is a peace that washes over me, that permeates all the confusion and unrest I previously battled, and it is soothing to the soul. There is nothing better than perfect peace especially if once upon a time we flirted with frustration and danced with discord. I imagine perfect peace like a robe we wrap around ourselves, complete and comforting and calming.
What a promise ‘I Do’ is! Whether we are committing to a person or simply being intentional in life, our word should be a cherished commodity. This month, journey with me in ‘I Do’ moments which are an oath, a vow, a pact, a pledge, an honorarium.
