They That Wait

Isaiah 40:12-13; 25-31, ‘Who has measured the waters of the sea in the hollow of His hand and used His hand-width to mark off the heavens? Who knows the exact weight of the dust of the earth and has weighed all the mountains and hills on His scale? Who fully understands the Spirit of Yahweh or is wise enough to counsel Him?

‘The Holy One asks: “Can you find anyone or anything to compare to Me? Where is the one equal to Me?” Lift up your eyes to the sky and see for yourself. Who do you think created the cosmos? He lit every shining star and formed every glowing galaxy and stationed them all where they belong. He has numbered, counted and given everyone a name. They shine because of God’s incredible power and awesome might; not one fails to appear! Why then, O Jacob’s tribes, would you ever complain? And My chosen Israel, why would you say, “Yahweh isn’t paying attention to my situation?! He has lost all interest in what happens to me!” Yahweh is the one and only everlasting God, the Creator of all you can see and imagine! He never gets weary or worn out. His intelligence is unlimited; He is never puzzled over what to do! He empowers the feeble and infuses the powerless with increasing strength. Even young people faint and get exhausted; athletic ones may stumble and fall. But those who wait for Yahweh’s grace will experience divine strength. They will rise up on soaring wings and fly like eagles, run their race without growing weary, and walk through life without giving up!’ (TPT)

Many of us have had children or intend to have children. Some of us even have grandchildren or perhaps even great grandchildren. If we don’t have our own children, maybe we are vested in the lives of nieces and nephews or godchildren. Whatever the case may be, we all have had a child wrap him or herself around our pinkies. We have doted on someone’s kids if not our own. We have gone to great lengths and expense to provide whatever is necessary to meet their needs. Hands down, we would step in front of a bullet for our own. There is not one thing that I would not attempt to make possible or available to my children or grandchildren if it was in their best interests to do for them. There will never be a day that they hear me say, ‘No. I am not willing to help you.’

So it is with our Father. He is a good, good parent, a good, good Father. He knows the name of every child He has ever had or will have, which means there is not a person that has ever lived or will live on the face of this earth who has not been named because we are all His children. He knows your name, and He knows the intricate workings of your entire being. He made an emphatic ‘I Do’ to you on the day He dreamt you into being.
When my children were babies, I knew every roll on their little bodies, every mark. I likely knew the same of my grandchildren. I also learned the scars and what made each of them tick, their designation and uniqueness, even their ambiguity. How much more so is it with our Father, the Creator of life, the God of the universe?! He made you, formed you, knit you together, wove the tapestry of you; therefore, He knows everything about you, even the intimate details you try to hide. His eye is on you, and He hasn’t missed a thing; you have His full attention even when you have hidden yourself from Him or have determined within yourself there is no way anyone could love you, especially not Almighty God. He finds you exceptional, extraordinary, magnificent, and just like you think on your own offspring, He is delighted by you and wants nothing but the best for you. You have His definitive ‘I Do’ from the moment you took your first breath, and He will breathe it over you long after you have taken your last. As you dwell on Him, be empowered by the energy He brings to your being because He wants nothing more than for you to walk and run and even fly.

What a promise ‘I Do’ is! Whether we are committing to a person or simply being intentional in life, our word should be a cherished commodity. This month, journey with me in ‘I Do’ moments which are an oath, a vow, a pact, a pledge, an honorarium.
