Inheritance
LORD, You alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. Psalm 16:5 NLT
There is something delicious about that word inheritance.
I inherited brown eyes from my dad. I inherited a love for kitties from my mom. I have a China chest filled with special 100-year old China from my grandmother, a quilt from my dad’s grandmother, and special items from my husband’s grandmothers. And from my Saviour, I inherited eternal life.
The Psalmist David tells us that the LORD is our inheritance. Wow. What He has passed on to us is almost beyond description. Talk about our cup overflowing:
Himself – our God Himself, Creator of the universe, our Father
Eternal pleasures
His Presence
His Spirit living inside us
His ear bent toward us
Jesus
Life
Answers to prayer – all of them
A banquet
A room in a mansion
Peace
And the list goes on. Our inheritance is the LORD and ALL that He is. Camp on that truth for a moment. And the seal of that inheritance is made in Christ’s blood with His body on the Cross being the document verifying our inheritance. Precious beyond words. Overwhelming. Beautiful.
Knowing that God cares for me this much gives me rich satisfaction and joy as He is my inheritance. I am the Beloved’s and He is mine.
So many times I fret and actually forget all that is mine. I listen to the lies of the enemy telling me that I’m forgotten and forsaken. These are definitely not true because I am His child He won’t ever abandon me. I am made in His image – His inheritance is stamped on me. And He is molding me to be more and more like His Son, and will complete it on the day of Jesus Christ. What a glorious day that will be.
Which inheritance is most meaningful to you? Do you believe that God has given you His rich inheritance – His Son Jesus? Do you know Jesus as your Saviour? It’s as simple as ABC if you don’t: A-admit you need Jesus and you are a sinner. B-believe in your heart Christ died for you. C-confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Father God, You are my inheritance. You alone are everything to me. I am in awe of You and Your love for me. It is amazing, overwhelming and it flows down over my whole being. Thank You for the richness of Your love that does not end or stop here. Your love goes on for eternity. AMEN
