Just Be Amazed – Day Two
Webster says ‘Amazed’ means greatly surprised; astounded; suddenly filled with wonder
Synonyms: stunned, bewildered, impressed, shocked
God says in Psalm 18:19, ‘He stood me in a wide open field. I stood there saved, amazed to be loved (MSG).’
There are many amazing “wow” factors today. The world holds its breath moment by moment, moments pregnant with awe and wonder. LIVE streaming, YouTube videos, ZOOM calls and instant replay govern our lives. We can capture any moment, watch on repeat, snip out pieces of reality we don’t want exposed, and essentially conduct business or pleasure from virtually anywhere, at any time in the world today. We would like to think we can edit our own destiny, and, actually, in many ways, that is exactly the choices we are making even though we don’t think about that in the terms we should. In fact, this is so much our reality that COVID slowed us down but did not topple business and relationship, and we were kept together while being kept apart during this social crisis. We likely have viewed more videos of modern-day holocaust on the streets in our cities as people of all races, colors and beliefs are terrified to open their eyes to another day. The hurricanes force paths, forest fires incinerate territories and rioters quash monuments and heritage. We are amazed at the devastation and the surprise all around us, all those A-HA moments.
But there is another A-HA moment too, an amazement. The surprise of discovery the first time we realize the God of the Universe loves us! In fact, He loves us so much, He sent his cherished and perfect son to take our wrongdoings, yours and mine, upon Himself, to hang those wrongdoings there, weighted, around His neck like the albatross they were, so that those albatrosses didn’t weigh me down beyond what I could withstand. My albatross stood between Father and Son; it extinguished every light on this earth while the Father looked away from His Son. He took my treason so I could walk free of bondage and chains.
Now! that is amazing! and because of that, I am amazed!
