Just BE Certain – Day 20
Webster says ‘Certain’ means free from doubt or reservation; confident; destined; sure to happen; established as true or sure; agreed upon
Synonyms: inevitable, unquestionable, indisputable, settled, confident, convinced, valid, genuine,
GOD says in 1 Timothy 6:17, ‘To all the rich of this world, I command you not to be wrapped in thoughts of pride over your prosperity, or rely on your wealth (which is so uncertain), for your riches are unreliable and nothing compared to the living God. Trust instead in the one who lavishes upon us all good things, fulfilling our every need (TPT).’
I was certain it was/wasn’t going to turn out this way. I was certain I would be further along by now. I was certain they were going to accept me. I was certain they would forgive me by now. I was certain I would get over it by now. I was certain…
Fill in the blank. An infinite number of sentiments apply. We are confident and convinced that what we thought would happen will. But every day, day after day, month after month, sometimes even year after year, it does not come to pass as we were certain it would. Where is your god in all this uncertainty? Who or what are you reliant upon?
Well, that depends first on who is your god? I must admit, it is only now in walking so closely with Him that I am truly able to say about some things ‘I am certain; without a shadow of a doubt.’ But there are also some things that are not to be known to man; therefore, it is not our certainty but God’s. Yet, my belief is, it depends on who god is to us. There are circumstances in life that we can command. Kind of. We can be certain that our priorities will have our utmost attention. We can be certain that who and what we love has our undivided attention. We can be certain that our end justifies our means. This is when we are our own god and we revere what we place in motion. And our Heavenly Father is such a gentleman, He likely will step back and politely open any door for us to walk through that we are tugging at because He gave us the freedom to be certain about what we chose.
What we can not be certain about, however, are the tools God is using in our lives to fashion us into the instrument He wishes us to be for His purpose. It is undeniable that God has a purpose for every child of His, and He will see it through to completion, as long as we are pliable in His hand. We are destined to fulfill what He purposed each of us to be AS LONG AS we are genuine (or certain) Who is in charge. It is also a matter of uncertainty how and when our God will commandeer what He is speaking into your existence and mine. The measure He will go to and what He will allow to occur in order for Him to make us into who He fashioned you to be, me to be.
What is certain, you ask. Not much these days, right?! But, you can be certain, that your Father loves you with an unspeakable love, and He has an unimaginable purpose for you alone; and so if all the fill-in-the-blanks in the world about ‘I was certain…’ keep coming back…well, blank, be certain of this: He is filling in your blank as you consider it. Because He is certain about you. And He is certain He wishes to lavish upon you every good thing to fulfill your every need.
Day 20 Challenge: What is your biggest worry or uncertainty? For today, whenever the fear or worry about this uncertainty comes to mind, make the deliberate effort to hand it over to God.
