ESSENTIALS for Me to Be: Drawn In Close
September 11th, 2021
What’s your ESSENTIAL?
Essential: absolutely necessary; indispensable; the essence of a thing; inherent and intrinsic, vital
Psalm 145:14-19, ‘Weak and feeble ones You will sustain. Those bent over with burdens of shame You will lift up. You have captured our attention and the eyes of all, look to You. You give what they hunger for at just the right time. When You open Your generous hand, it’s full of blessings, satisfying the longings of every living thing. You are fair and righteous in everything You do, and Your love is wrapped into all of Your works. You draw near to those who call out to You, listening closely, especially when their hearts are true. Every godly one receives even more than what they ask for. For You hear what their hearts really long for, and You bring them Your saving strength.’ (TPT)
I have realized that I am not a very trusting person. This is a characteristic I reconcile I need the Lord to revamp and rework in me. Left to my own devices I likely will always flounder when it comes to trusting those who are attempting to vest in my life. Much like a person who has never learned to swim, but who finds herself in the deep end of a pool, or worse yet out to sea, I am smacking choppy waves with flailing arms and seemingly more feeble attempts to save myself from going under.
So, for me it is essential that I accept the saving grace of a saving God. However, it is all up to me. I, for so many years, chose to continue to flail and struggle and drown, fully aware that if I would just allow myself to succumb to His rescue, I could be set free…from myself. That’s who held me captive: me.
Isn’t it interesting that whom we fear most isn’t often who we should most agonize over? Our worst enemy is all too frequently ourselves. We hold our own selves back from true freedom and progress and purpose God Almighty has for us. We stay stuck in patterns, in what’s comfortable, in insecurities, in the inability to trust others, and most importantly, the God Who dreamt us into being, Who has our best interest at heart.
Let Him draw you close. Let Him whisper in your ear. Let Him woo you to His heart. Let Him save you and sing over you. He longs to do this for you far more than you long for Him to, but you will never be the same.
