ME-ssentials – REAL – Day Seven

ESSENTIALS for Me to Be: REAL

September 7th, 2021

What’s your ESSENTIAL?

Essential: absolutely necessary; indispensable; the essence of a thing; inherent and intrinsic, vital

Romans 12:9-10, ‘Love from the center of who you are; don’t fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good. Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle.’ (MSG)

I was essentially looking for something else when I stumbled across this. I couldn’t breathe. It reminded me of a rawness inside of me that has risen to the surface recently. Maybe it was there all along and I kept tamping it down; maybe it has simply just appeared. Whatever the case might be. Here it is.

‘Love from the center of who you are.’ My guts hurt. Recently, I have several friends who are going through something unimaginable to me. It’s impossible to relay my emotions for these families, these friends, but there is a rawness to my feelings, painful to the touch. Apart from Jesus, I don’t understand much about compassion because life is comprised of objectives and definitives, thou shalls and shall nots. But when I am called to care for or hurt for or love somebody with all I am, I want to show up. Lord, help me show up!

I guess essentially, I need to be real. God, teach me not to fake it. Teach me to be real for You and love with all I got inside of me. That’s what You did. You loved with all You were until you spilled over, all of You on to all of us; Your scarlet blood washing my sin white as snow.
