Modest is Still Hottest
I have not written anything in a few months because I have felt the pulling of God at my heart strings to address something that should have been addressed long ago. It is not a light topic and I want to make sure I am using wisdom when sharing this. I have been in prayer about it for a while.
This article is about fashion but instead of sharing styles that are trending and recommending them, this is more about what I do not recommend and helping you address this topic with other women.
Increasingly, I am seeing more women feeling the desire to share their bodies, either fully naked, with lingerie on or very sexually dressed on social media. I know the whole body positive movement has been a trend on social media. Don’t get me wrong, body positivity is not a bad thing. You should be grateful and appreciate the body that God has given you. You have no need to feel self conscious about stretch marks and scars from having children. However, our bodies are the temple of the most high God. We are not to parade them around for all to see. We can be body positive without sharing our bodies with the rest of the world.
The Bible talks very plainly and openly on this topic. Everything that God directs us on is for our own good.
I want women to show their beauty by dressing in appropriate clothes that are modest and respectable. Their beauty will be shown by what they do, not by their hair styles or the gold jewelry, pearls, or expensive clothes they wear. 1 Timothy 2:9, God's Word Translation
He is not telling us to keep dressed and stay modest so that we do not get attention. But it is to protect us, all of us. God wants to protect men and women from the world’s wickedness in relation to modesty and sexuality. The world promotes sexuality everywhere we look. We can see soft porn in images on billboards and in commercials. Anywhere and everywhere, it is readily available. Not only are adults the target of this promotion of beautiful being on the outside, but our children are also exposed to the very same type of fashion. Children are exposed to this type of thing when they are watching videos on tablets. Even if the settings are set to keep out the adult content, the creators find a way to get it on the channels for kids. Young boys and girls are exposed to people who are not modestly dressed.
This is why we women need to become okay with looking out for other women. Be brave and share with them what I have shared here. It is not about demeaning each other or body shaming. It is about protecting each other and the men as well. We have a big opportunity to make a difference and make a change for the better but we all have to make a point to reach out in love when we see ladies walking in dangerous territory. “Love” is the keyword here. Anything else will cause them to go in the opposite direction.
I hope this reaches in and pulls at your heart as God has been doing to mine. My heart is breaking as I write this and tears streaming down my face because I want so badly to protect every woman and be a light not a stumbling block to every man.
Please also remember, that the younger girls are looking up to you. What they see you do, they will take it one step further.
Modest is still hottest! Pass it on.
