Suddenly, they saw the fingers of a human handwriting on the plaster wall of the king’s palace, near the lampstand. The king himself saw the hand as it wrote. Daniel 5:5 (NLT)
So, after Nebuchadnezzar had taken the gold vessels from the temple in Jerusalem, his son Belshazzar had decided that he was going to bring them out and use them during a great feast. As he and his guests were enjoying themselves, they suddenly began to see a handwriting on the wall. I imagine the significance of mentioning the lampstand is so that we know the light was shining on it in a way that they were not mistaken as to what was going on in that palace.
The writing on the wall was a message to Belshazzar but until Daniel interpreted it, he could not understand what the writing said. Because he was living a sinful life full of idolatry and desecration of sanctified vessels, Belshazzar was sent this warning of how his kingdom was going to come to an end.
Reading this made me think about how gracious God really is to us. He is so patient with us as He waits for us to line up with His will. He won’t force us to do the right thing, but He wants us to. He wants to see us prosper and not fail. He wants to see us continue in the plans He has for us and not watch our work be found wanting. I am so thankful that we are not bound by the law as they were in the Old Testament. We are not judged so harshly. He made a way through the blood of Jesus for us to come to Him in repentance and move forward.
LadyBug stay focused on the plan He has for you. Let God be the one who receives your praises as you journey through life here on earth. Look for the writing on the wall that will encourage you to press forward.
Let us not be found living a sinful life as we walk in the last days of this earth.
Much Love,
