And take heed to yourselves, lest at anytime your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. Luke 21:34 (KJV)
Surfeiting, what a word that is! It means to eat or drink excessively. As I read this I began to think about our nation, in fact our world. We are fast becoming a society where we are lax in what we care about. We find offense in everything that does not fit our belief or agenda. If we cannot benefit from it, then we are so quick to dismiss it as unimportant. It is a society that is all about “self.” Oh, my heart hurts for us. We have lost the hope of what it means to walk with Jesus. We have become lax in the characteristics of a Christian because we want everyone to like us. That is not the society that God has intended for us to be.
How often do we long to find happiness in the next big thing? We turn to the newest food craze, diet fad or drink. We hope to find happiness in the things of the world and yet we go home still feeling empty in our soul. That is because we are sinking ourselves in the pleasures that the world calls “best feeling in the world.” All the while, these things are overwhelming our heart with misconceptions and we don’t see the consequences until they are right there in our face. Oh, my heart!
LadyBug Jesus is waiting for you to saturate your life with Him and His love. He is there beside you longing to be your “greatest love story.”
Let us turn from those things that keep us from knowing His love and grace.
Much Love,
