Honor the LORD with our wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Proverbs 3:9 (NLT)
We often hear this when we talk about tithes and offering. But have we ever taken a look at this verse from a different standpoint? Have we looked at it beyond monetary and material value?
We get caught up in the worldly definition of wealth and find ourselves consumed with the monetary and material aspects of the definition. We begin to define ourselves by the riches we own. Then we find ourselves giving based on those riches. We define place in society based on how much is in our bank account.
However, God showed me how this verse can be applied to other areas of our lives in which we will find wealth. He showed me that honoring Him through wealth is not about money. It’s about how we can bring glory to Him for all that He has done for us. Honoring Him is respecting Him in all things. It means we have a high reverence for Him and who He is. He also showed me that wealth comes in many ways other than material and monetary. He showed me what it is to be wealthy with love from grandchildren and children. He defined my wealth by blessing me with life. He shows me wealth by blessing me when I don’t deserve it. These are things that I can honor because He has given them to me.
To honor God with our wealth and the best part of us, means we honor Him by teaching our children to follow His Word and to love Him. We honor Him when we give something to those in need. We honor Him when we speak of His love for us. We honor Him when we give ourselves to be used for the Kingdom.
LadyBug don’t fret about the money in the offering plate. Instead seek to give the best of you to god so that others may know His love.
Let us give freely from the wealth that we have been given in honor of the Giver. Let us glorify Him in all things that we have.
Much Love,
