A Proverb a day keeps Untruth away
Proverbs 1:1-6, ‘These are the wise sayings of Solomon, David’s son, Israel’s king—written down so we’ll know how to live well and right, to understand what life means and where it’s going; a manual for living, for learning what’s right and just and fair; to teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality. There’s something here also for seasoned men and women, still a thing or two for the experienced to learn—fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate, the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women.’ (MSG)
Prescription (RX) Six: This Little Light of Mine
Proverbs 6:23, ‘For truth is a bright beam of light shining into every area of your life, instructing and correcting you to discover the ways to godly living.’ (TPT)
Have you ever been in a really dark place, like almost terrifyingly dark? When every sound is accentuated, every fear becomes an echo, and your heart beats like a drum in your chest with ever-increasing intensity. Your eyes make out features of beings that aren’t even real, but the depth of the darkness magnifies and multiplies the unseen. Trees become giants and bushes, monsters; buildings are fortresses and shadows, rabid animals. The imagination is a powerful thing the Lord gave us. It is a creative weapon or an instrument based upon how it is used. And because of its importance, the enemy loves to wreak havoc or play games with what is our most ingenious and innovative tool. All things in our world that have been invented, created, developed, and entrepreneured were birthed in someone’s mind, which, no matter what the world or an individual says, came from the Father, the Master Creator, the God of the Universe.
So, I imagine if you have ever found yourself in an avidly dark place, whether literally or figuratively, I bet you sought a flashlight, a light, a lamp, a lantern, an enlightened mood. Isn’t it amazing how the light eats the darkness? The light shreds the dark, invades the shadows, exposes what’s hidden. Even a person with a light personality can brighten a room when he or she walks in. A smile can lighten any darkened place just as a positive word of encouragement can as well.
Truth is the epitome of shredding lies much like a beam of light frays the dark. Truth is a teacher. Truth is an encourager. It dispels the gloominess of falsehood, and, like the light exposing darkness so truth brings dishonesty out of the shadows and into daylight.
I encourage you to do your own study of Proverbs as well as follow along with me! How it works: take a Proverb a day (there are 31, so perfect for the month of August) and read the chapter that corresponds with the day. Then stop on a verse that grips your attention. Focus on the verse(s) for the day as it is highly possible the Holy Spirit is speaking to you through what He helped you unearth. It’s almost like a Treasure Hunt! I will share with you this month Golden Nuggets the Holy Spirit leads me to, and I would love to have you share with me what He reveals to you in your mining excavation also!
