Do you look at things according to the outward appearance? If anyone is convinced in himself that he is Christ’s, let him again consider this in himself, that just as he is Christ’s, eve so we are Christ’s.
2 Corinthians 10:7 (NKJV)
Being human, we tend to see things in the flesh before we see them in the spirit. We see what is on the outside before we even know them. Consequently, others see us with the same forethought. The see the hair, make-up, clothes, shoes, jewelry, and nails when they can’t see our heart and soul. They cannot see our spirit.
Not only do we judge, but so often we are judged by our appearance. Let’s be real for a minute. There are times that I need to make a quick trip to the grocery store, and I don’t really have the time to get changed and put on make-up. So, I grab my purse and I make my way to the store in my comfy, house lounging, clothes. Even though I look a mess, I am no less a Christian than I would be if I were dressed to go to church on Sunday morning. But how many people see my sweats, baggy shirt and messy bun and think I must be lacking because I look so disheveled? How many will judge me because I have a haphazard bun on the top of my head rather than shiny, curls flowing down my shoulders?
In this verse of 2 Corinthians, Paul is sharing his experience with this type of judgment from other preachers. He is reminding us that those who claim to be Christ’s must also because of that claim, know that we are also Christ’s. There is no one allowed to tell us or judge that we are not Christ’s just because of where they are in their relationship with Christ. Regardless of what it looks like on the outside, only God will know what is on the inside.
LadyBug just as we know others belong to Christ, we need to be confident in our relationship with Him should others judge our outer appearance. Anyone who truly belongs to Christ will know that we all belong to Christ.
Let us know who we are in Christ that we may remember others belong to Him just as we do.
Much Love
