Peter has always been my most favorite of the Apostles. Though he had a period of time where he was walking in the shadows, he was still walking after Jesus. His confidence may not have been what it should have been, but Peter was still willing to seek his Savior. When he gave himself, he gave all of himself to be a disciple and apostle of Jesus. Sometimes when I read about Peter, I wonder if he wanted to be great, but lacked the confidence because he was walking this journey with Paul and John. They were so eloquent and popular; I wonder if Peter felt like he didn’t have what it took to be the disciple they were. He was so wrong, and that is why I love to read stories of Peter.
“Then Peter said, ‘Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have I give thee: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” Acts 3:6 (NLT version)
This is the greatness of peter. He was humble enough to accept that he was not a rich man by the world’s standards, but he knew he was one of the wealthiest men in the world because of Jesus. He gave the lame man at the gate something so valuable. When Peter took the hand of that lame man at the gate called Beautiful, he gave the man the ability to see the miracle of God’s healing. Ah, to be used in such a way is so much more than to attain the notoriety of a degree on paper. God doesn’t require a degree; He only requires a heart.
LadyBug let us always seek the wealth of God and allow ourselves to share the true treasures found in Jesus. Let our love for others be the degree that shows a heart for Jesus.
