Spring Break

Way to Connect, Serve and Share this Spring Break

Since the pandemic there has been a growing trend to spend our time a bit differently. With more and more people staying at home, it has changed the way our schools and outings look. Many have converted to working or doing school online, and now with spring break just weeks away, maybe you’re wondering what there is to do for fun in the current state we’re living?

Whether you find yourself going on a vacation or chilling out at home, there are ways to connect, serve and share. Here are some tips to help you go into spring break with a heart full of gratitude.

How to CONNECT? God created us for fellowship. Our hearts long to be with others and to grow closer together. That’s because when we do, we also grow closer to Christ. The Bible tells us that if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. (1 John 1:7) That is such a powerful, yet comforting verse. It reminds us that when we get together as a body of believers, we feel God’s goodness and grace.

Here are some ways to connect with your fellow brothers and sisters this spring break.

  • Meet up for coffee or breakfast.
  • Get out in nature together. Go for a walk, hike or bike ride.
  • Invite others over for dinner.
  • Ask how you can pray for them. Start a prayer chain.
  • Plan and do something fun together.

How to SERVE? We are called to serve and love others. Hebrews 6:10 tells us God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. When we work in faithfulness and our motive is to spread love, God promises to reward those good works. That’s because, it pleases God when we do good works in His name. Spring break is a perfect opportunity to reach out and serve those in our communities. Many are struggling during these trying times. Open up your heart and ask God where you can serve and meet the needs of those around you.

Here are some ways to serve in your community this spring break:

  • Bring a meal to a family in need.
  • Bake cookies for your neighbors.
  • Offer to help in a homeless shelter.
  • Make cards for a retirement home.
  • Share a smile or offer a kind gesture to a stranger

How to SHARE? As believers we are also told to spread the good news- the gospel! Matthew 28:19-20 tells us Jesus told the disciples to go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” This requires action on our part. We must pray and ask God to use us in ways to show others Who He is. Spend time in The Word and in prayer. Let God lead your heart on when, where and how to share His message.

Here are some ways to share the gospel with strangers this spring break:

  • Simply share your testimony.
  • Write encouraging verses and put in public places.
  • Wear Christian t-shirts as a way to open up a conversation.
  • Buy a few extra Bibles and hand out to a person in need.
  • Invite someone to church.

By choosing to live intentionally and carving out time with fellow believers, reaching out to those in need, and spreading the gospel will make for a very memorable spring break. Still not sure where to start? Look into your local church group for connections and ways to serve. Be the hands and feet of Jesus this spring break and be ready to not only be a blessing, but to be blessed as well.
