My Way or the Highway

Isaiah 55:8-9, ‘”For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”’ (NKJV)

Did your momma ever tell you that you’d better straighten up and fly right? What could that possibly even mean?! Well, I think today’s task in our SpringCleaning is checking our ways, doing the necessary walkthrough, doing a deep-clean, if necessary, so we can fly ‘right’!

Maybe you use WAZE, a navigation app. I think there is even an iMAP or AppleWay or something, lol. I personally like Google maps. Whatever your preference, do you know what we did before travel evolved and navigation systems became a ‘thang’? I am that person. I was a mapper (no, not napper, lol, though now I wish!). I made intricate notes and outlines, and mapped all routes, which took me hours, to see what was the shortest, fastest, most efficient, etc; essentially what the navigation apps we now have at our fingertips do within moments for us. I could not return to my common practice, having benefited and becoming accustomed to the simplistic by which we navigate anything today.

Have you ever been using Google to navigate you somewhere when all of a sudden it lost its ‘way’, or you were routed through a construction zone where the exit is closed or the road has changed? How irrational did you become? I ask because I did; having followed the route designated for me, and the roads and exits were closed, and it was late at night and in an unfavorable part of a city I was unfamiliar with. I hyperventilated I think listening to ‘Rerouting’ on repeat.

We have an internal Navigator, the Holy Spirit Who will never lead us astray. It is required of us to have a clear signal and a clean desire, but with very minimal technological equipment or understanding, we can be assured of an eager assistant to help us know the Way. I receive downloads or upgrades or updates from the Holy Spirit now that I am a Frequent Flyer. My spirit within me speaks to the Spirit, I guess, and I receive this notification that reroutes me or shows me a better way. When I am lost or I am searching or I can’t find my way or I need a better way…all of it; I receive internal nudgings that cause me to pause and ask for directions or a new route.
Why is this? Because our human internal compass is broken. It is calibrated from a world system that finds its equilibrium in the world and by humanity’s standards. We can follow Siri and Bixby and Alexa, but, truly, we have a Lover of our Soul whose strong desire is to be our Personal Assistant, and as His traveler, He longs to be your Travel Guide, and show you your way through His ‘map’. His ways are above yours and He will never disembark you from the destination He has mapped out for you specifically.

I read the other day, ‘Not all who wander are lost.’ I don’t know who coined that but what an amazing statement. All my wandering led me to Him and I am no longer lost. The trip has been more than worth it!
