Starting the Year with God
What an interesting thought! Starting the year with God. Does that mean I ended the year without God? No. Starting the year with God reminds me to keep the focus on Him and not on myself.
In every moment of the day and night, I pray my focus will be on Him. As the new year begins, I think of a list of goals for my life. Some of those goals will be reached while others will be set aside for another time. I’m okay with that. Putting pressure on myself to reach every goal is setting unrealistic expectations.
My writing goals will continue. I want to have more pieces published and to share the love of God with others through my writing. Creating those devotions, articles, and blog posts takes time. Being aware of my physical, mental, and spiritual needs will allow me to rest when needed.
Going to the Father in prayer brings peace and calm. When deadlines loom and life activities are calling, I go to Him and seek refuge, wisdom, and discernment. Reading the Bible and absorbing His message can bring a deeper relationship with God.
One important thing to remember is that every assignment we are offered may not be the one for us to accept. Yes, it’s nice to be asked to participate in certain activities, but, sometimes, we need to say no. When a twinge of doubt enters, ask God if this assignment is for you or someone else.
There are times when we bless others by passing on something. Our saying “no” may open the door for another person to be blessed.
Today and every day, we can offer the love of God to believers and those who have yet to believe. Through words and actions, God’s message can shine brightly. A simple smile, hello, thank you, sharing conversation with family and friends and strangers, and so many more ways of spreading love can brighten the world.
Social media will be filled with expectations, word of the year, goals to reach, and more. Take time to sit with God and ask what He wants you to accomplish in the new year. Perhaps it’s something you are continuing to achieve. Maybe there is something new to consider. Whatever God has planned for your life, know that His plan is always best.
Start the new year by sharing time with the Father. He is waiting for you.
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33 NIV)
God bless you.
Happy New Year,
Melissa Henderson
Amen! When I was younger, I’d leave God “out” of certain areas in my life. Now, I “bring God along” for all of them. God goes where God wishes, and I know God is always with me. The difference is that now I choose to invite God to walk with me rather than relegating God to the sidelines! God is my leader and my everything.
Amen. Yes, God is the leader. He wants to be with us in every moment. 🙂 Blessings to you and your family.
Amen Melissa. We must keep God in the center of all areas of our lives. I’m praying all your endeavors in this new year bring you joy in the Lord.
Thank you Yvonne. I appreciate your encouragement. Have a blessed day! 🙂
This says it all, “Start the new year by sharing time with the Father. He is waiting for you.” Great post, Melissa.
Thank you Karen. I appreciate your encouragement. Have a blessed week! 🙂
